Plunged into darkness, but for the glow of a few hundred candles, the historical Leeds Minster will be the setting of Candlelight: Mozart & Vivaldi on July 20. This captivating evening of music will pay tribute to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and a selection of Mozart’s concertos. Hearing the masterpieces of these two classical music juggernauts side by side will make for an impressive event; then to add the fabulous setting of the atmospherically lit Leeds Minster too? It’ll be spellbinding. You can snap up your tickets here.
For those unfamiliar with Vivaldi‘s Four Seasons, his violin concertos offer a musical expression of each season of the year; at this Candlelight concert, you’ll hear extracts from each of the four seasons. As for Mozart, you can expect to hear the following pieces of music: Adagio from Clarinet Concerto, Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Movements 1 and 2, Confutatis and Lacrymosa from the Requiem, and Voi Che Sapete from the Marriage of Figaro. The compositions will be performed by the Liverpool String Quartet.
The Vivaldi and Mozart Candlelight concert will grace Leeds Minster for two shows on the night, one at 6pm and the other 8.30pm. The heritage venue, with its stained glass windows and high ceilings illuminated by candlelight, will make for a thoroughly magical setting and an enjoyable evening of music.
