Nearly 100 pubs and bars across the UK are currently celebrating after a selection of venues were named the best in their respective counties. From Clackmannanshire to Cornwall, 94 pubs and bars across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have scooped a prestigious county winner title as part of the 2022 National Pub & Bar Awards.
One bar in Leeds has been shortlisted for the title of National Pub & Bar of the Year alongside four hospitality venues within the Yorkshire and Humber region. The Maven on Leeds’ Call Lane has been selected for the award of best pub and bar alongside the likes of The Firepit in Beverley, The Punch Bowl in Marton-cum-Grafton, Public in Sheffield and The Cross Keys Inn in Lincolnshire.
The Maven has been a popular independent speakeasy cocktail bar on Call Lane, themed around prohibition but with a modern twist. Hidden in plain sight, thisLeeds cocktail bar brings mystery in its setting and magic when it comes to their cocktail menu.
Serving twists on classics like their ‘Jaguar silk’ cocktail which is a floral and herbaceous play on the Pisco Sour as well as offering a cocktail tasting experience sure to tingle your tastebuds and enjoy drinks that are eclectic, creative and ever-changing in an exciting way. All of which can be sipped on in their 1920s-inspired seating area which boasts mood lighting, cosy corners and patterned windows.
The National Pub & Bar Awards aims to put exemplary on-trade businesses across the UK in the national spotlight, showcasing the hospitality industry’s diversity, creativity and vital importance to the UK economy.
The pubs, which have been selected on overall best practice across a number of operational categories, will be officially crowned at a red carpet celebration at 30 Euston Square on June 22. At the grand final, 15 regional winners will also be announced, as well as the esteemed accolade – the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year, which was won by Galvin Green Man in Essex in 2021.
