This year in Leeds, Candlelight Concerts are going to be a mainstay that takes over a variety of venues across the city. If you’ve never been to one, this might be a perfect time. On September 8 you can visit Holy Trinity Church to soak up the spectacular sounds of Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and more. String Infusion will be bringing to life music from some of the most iconic films of the past 50 years. On September 9, the Holy Trinity Church will swap its usual hymns for the chart-topping hits of Beyonce. A talented string quartet will be giving her sensational songs a candlelight makeover, performing among the flickering glow of a sea of candles with sweeping bows and sonorous melodies. You’ll be Crazy In Love with this unforgettable night of music, listening to iconic Beyonce tracks such as Single Ladies, If I Were A Boy, Halo, Irreplaceable (and even get a sprinkle of Destiny’s Child goodness with Survivor), all with a unique acoustic twist.
Film and animation are coming to Holy Trinity Church towards the end of September in a big way. First up on September 29 is a tribute to Magical Movie Soundtracks that will transport you to a whole new world. The hits from some of your favourite Disney & Pixar films will be brought to life by the incredible String Infusion quartet for 60 enchanting minutes of live music. You can expect to hear numbers from The Lion King, Shrek, Mulan, Moana, and so many more. Trust me, you (or your kids) won’t let it go if you wait too long and it sells out. The film and animation theme continues the next night with the works of Joe Hisaishi by candlelight. Initially, the name Joe Hisaishi might not mean much to you, but you will know his compositions if you’re even slightly a fan of Japanese cinema and anime. Hisaishi is the mastermind behind the soundtracks of the vast majority of Hayao Miyazaki’s most notable works. Be prepared for music from Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and many more of Hisaishi and anime’s most iconic pieces of music. Don’t worry it’s not just Holy Trinity Church that’s having all the fun. On September 22nd, Swifties rejoice as Left Bank Leeds plays host to Candlelight: A Tribute to Taylor Swift. Be ready to hear Taylor’s hits like never before including: Blank Space, Wildest Dreams, Shake It Off and more. On September 28, it is Leeds Minster‘s turn for the candlelight treatment. The works of masterful composer Ludovico Einaudi will fill the Grade I listed church, celebrating a modern music legend. The talented pianist will serenade you with renditions of Nuvole Bianche, Primavera, I Giorni, and more, and when combined with the gently flickering candlelight, it’s a concert that’ll leave you utterly at peace.
